Preview, point at the page and save the site

The Preview tab

The Preview tab sits beside the conversation and shows the page the team is building, updating as files change. For a plain HTML page it shows the page directly. For a project that needs its own server, Maxtkn can start that for you.

Use the project’s own server

1. Maxtkn detects how the project starts (for example a dev script) and offers to run it.
2. You agree to the command first. It does not run on its own.
3. The page is embedded in the Preview tab. Stopping the server closes it again.

Point at the page, not at code

Turn on Design mode in the Preview toolbar. Click a button, a heading or a box, or drag a box around an area, then say what to change. The agent is told which element it is, where it lives in your files and which style rule paints it, so “make this bigger” lands on the right thing.

• It works with your own dev server too, through a small local helper that adds the picker to the page. The helper closes when Design mode is turned off.
• The preview never gets access to the app itself, so a page written by an agent cannot reach your settings or keys.

Draw on a picture of the page

The picture button in the Preview toolbar takes a frozen picture of the page and opens it in a markup window. Draw a region or an arrow, add a text note, and attach it to your message. The keyboard works too: arrow keys move a region, and every mark has a text alternative.

Device sizes and its own window

The preview can open in its own window, with phone, tablet, laptop and wide sizes, so you can see the page at the size your visitors will.

Let the agent open the page

The team’s browser tool opens your running app in a real browser, reads the page, clicks, types and takes screenshots. It is how the tester checks that a button really adds a task. It cannot reach addresses on your local network other than the project preview.

Save the site as a zip

When the page looks right, open the thread’s ⋯ menu in the sidebar and choose Export…. It saves the site as a zip. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

1. Pick the folder. The project folder when it has an index.html, or a build folder such as dist, build, out, public or docs. A built folder is suggested over its source. The step warns if there is no index.html or the site is very large.
2. Review. See how many files and how big. A list shows what was left out on purpose and why: .git, node_modules, Maxtkn’s own folder, .env files, private keys, databases, logs, hidden files, files over 25 MB, and any file whose text looks like a key or a password.
3. Save. Press Save as a zip… and choose where.

The zip is a normal file you can keep or upload to any web host yourself. Maxtkn does not upload it for you. A line is added to the thread so there is a record that you saved it.
