Maxtkn does not include or resell any model. You bring one. Model usage is billed by the provider whose key you use, or counts against your plan, and local models have no usage cost.
| Option | What you need | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic Claude | An Anthropic API key | Add it under Settings → Models → Model providers → Add a provider → Anthropic (Claude). |
| An OpenAI-compatible API | An endpoint address and a key | OpenAI and many other services speak this protocol. |
| Presets | A key for that service | OpenRouter, Gemini, Mistral, Groq and Azure OpenAI have ready-made presets. |
| A local server | Ollama or LM Studio running on your computer | Add it as an OpenAI-compatible endpoint with its local address. No key is needed for most local servers. |
| Your Claude Code or Codex plan | The tool installed and signed in | See “Use my AI subscription” below. |
Pick the model for a thread from the model menu in the message box. A model that is being retired is flagged where you choose it, with what replaces it.
If you already pay for a Claude plan or a ChatGPT plan, Maxtkn can use it through the tool you installed, instead of an API key. At the top of Settings → Models there is a card called Use my AI subscription with one row per tool.
| Tool | Plan it uses | Status you will see |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Your Claude plan | “Signed in · pro plan · version”, “Installed, but not signed in”, or “Not found on this computer”. |
| Codex | Your ChatGPT plan | The same three states. |
