Use Maxtkn
See a cost estimate before you send, check what each run really took afterwards, and set day and month budgets that read like a phone plan.

Maxtkn does not charge for model use. Your provider bills you for the key you use, or the usage counts against your plan, and local models cost nothing per request. What Maxtkn does is show you what a run is likely to cost and stop you going over limits you set.
Once you have typed a message, the message box shows something like “About 40 cents · ~6 min”. A guess is marked with “≈”. Hover to see where it comes from: “going by your last 5 similar runs”, or “a rough guess until there are a few runs to learn from”. A model with no known price says cost unknown, never a made-up number.
The finished-run card begins “Took about 6 minutes and cost about 40 cents.” The exact token counts stay below it in small type. A stopped or failed run says how long it ran too.
Settings → General → Usage and budgets shows your day and month budgets as meters, like a phone plan: “$10.00 left of $30.00 this month”, a bar, the renewal date and the pace. Once you have three finished runs, it also says what a typical run takes for you.
To keep costs down, use the Solo team for small changes, turn Plan first on for large ones so you can correct the direction before tokens are spent, and use a cheaper model for routine work. See Describe a task and work with a team.
Something missing or wrong? Maxtkn is early-access software and these pages change with it. The changelog lists what changed in each build.
