No. Maxtkn is built for people who describe what they want and review results. The code is one click away if you are curious, but you never have to read it.
You need a model to do real work, but not necessarily a key. You can use your Claude Code or Codex plan, or a local model server such as Ollama. See Connect a model.
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) today. macOS and Linux builds are not available yet. Choose your platform on the early access list to hear when that changes. See Install Maxtkn.
Early-access installers are not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen does not recognise the publisher. Check the SHA-256 shown on the download card against your file before you choose Run anyway. See Install Maxtkn.
Download the newer installer and run it over the old one. In-app updating is built but not switched on for early-access builds. Your projects and settings are kept.
Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Maxtkn → Uninstall. Your project folders are never touched.
Anthropic Claude, any OpenAI-compatible API, presets for OpenRouter, Gemini, Mistral, Groq and Azure OpenAI, and local servers such as Ollama or LM Studio. You can also use your Claude Code or Codex plan. See Connect a model.
The app runs on your computer, but models need a connection unless you point Maxtkn at a local model server such as Ollama or LM Studio, which works offline.
Maxtkn does not resell model access: model usage is billed by the provider whose key you use, and local models have no usage cost. Maxtkn is a one-time payment with no subscription: Community is $79 with community support, Supported is $199 with direct email support, and there is a $29 launch offer with a code. Licenses are not on sale yet; join the early access list and you will be told. The app shows an estimate before you send and what a run took afterwards, and lets you set day and month budgets. See Cost and budgets.
Yes. If you buy a license and do not like Maxtkn, ask for a refund within 7 days of paying and you get the full amount back, with no reason needed. Refunds are not automatic, so you have to ask. The Terms say how, and Buy and download has a summary.
Yes, for Claude Code and Codex. Maxtkn starts the tool you already use and never reads its login; usage counts against your plan. See Connect a model.
It has no price in the built-in list, and Maxtkn would rather say so than guess. Budgets cannot count an unpriced model.
Projects are ordinary folders you choose. Keys are in the Windows Credential Manager. History and settings are in a local database. Model requests go directly from the app to your provider.
Agents are limited to the project folder, paths that escape it are rejected, and commands are checked before they run. Access modes decide what needs your approval, and risky commands always ask. Every change can be reverted. By default this is a guard, not a virtual machine; you can switch on running commands in a container or a WSL sandbox. See Approvals and safety.
Reject the change in the Changes tab, type /undo, or rewind the project to before any message. See Review changes and undo.
In Ask first and Auto-edit, deleting a file always asks. In Full access, dangerous commands and secrets still ask. Protected paths such as .env and .git ask in every mode.
That line of work ends. The agent is told you said no and not to find another route to the same action.
After a run Maxtkn runs your project checks and any acceptance checks you wrote in plain sentences, can open the app in a browser, and lists the evidence in the walkthrough. A check that could not run is reported as not run, never as a pass.
Solo for small changes, Product team for most everyday work, Full squad for a new app or a large feature. See Describe a task and work with a team.
Yes. Start more threads in the same project or in different projects. For work that touches the same files, switch on an isolated copy so threads do not overwrite each other. See Isolated copies.
Within limits. Goals, scheduled tasks and the command line run without you, with a time limit and, for priced models, a money limit. They never wait for an approval and never grant one, so anything risky is denied and listed in the report. Scheduled tasks in the app run while Maxtkn is open. See Goals and scheduled tasks.
Yes. Maxtkn reads AGENTS.md, .cursor rules, SKILL.md skill folders, slash commands from .claude and .cursor, and MCP servers. A folder that brings its own hooks or tools asks for your trust once and lists exactly what would run. See Customize Maxtkn.
Yes: maxtkn run. It is built from the project source today and not yet published as a package. See The maxtkn command line.
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and Gemini CLI, a plain shell, any command you type, and tools you add yourself. Each needs to be installed and signed in on your computer. See Many terminal sessions.
No. It starts the tool, which uses the login you already made in a normal terminal. Maxtkn stores no credential for it.
Up to twenty at a time. Each uses memory, around 350 MB for a Claude Code session, so the header shows what the running ones use together.
No. Docker, Podman or WSL are optional and only used if you switch on running commands in isolation. The Terminals view and isolated copies need git, not Docker.
Maxtkn saves the site as a zip after showing exactly which files go and which are left out (secrets, history, packages). It does not upload anything. Upload the zip to the host you choose. See Preview, point at the page and save the site.
Yes. A team or agent can be shared as a file, and bundles can carry teams, rules, skills, commands, servers and hooks. Anything that runs a program is off until the person who installs it ticks it.
Something missing or wrong? Maxtkn is early-access software and these pages change with it. The changelog lists what changed in each build.
