The short version

  • Antigravity is Google’s platform for working with coding agents. It puts agents first and works best with Google’s own Gemini models.
  • Maxtkn is a local desktop workspace. Your projects are ordinary folders on your PC, and you choose the model: your own key, a local model, or your Claude Code or Codex plan.
  • Both are aimed at people who want to supervise agents rather than type every line. They differ in where they run, which models they favour, and how you pay.

Where Antigravity is stronger

  • Google behind it. It is built and run by Google, with access to Google’s models and infrastructure, and it is available on Windows, macOS and Linux. Maxtkn is a small independent beta, built and tested on Windows only, with an installer that is not code-signed yet.
  • A free way to start. Google has offered a free tier for individuals. Maxtkn is a paid app, and you also pay your model provider.
  • Artifacts you comment on. Reviewing a plan or walkthrough by commenting on it is a strength of its approach, and a good fit if you want to steer without reading code.
  • Gemini integration. If you want to work with Gemini models, Antigravity is built around them.

Where Maxtkn is different

  • You choose the model. Use Claude, an OpenAI-compatible service, OpenRouter, Gemini, Mistral, Groq, Azure, a local model, or your Codex or Claude Code plan. A local server such as Ollama works with no usage cost.
  • Local-first. Projects, history and settings stay on your computer, and the app sends us no usage data. Model requests go straight from the app to the provider you set up.
  • Built for Windows first. Maxtkn was made and tested on Windows, including how it asks for approval and runs commands.
  • Many coding tools in one place. The Terminals view runs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode or Gemini CLI in up to twenty sessions, each in its own copy of your project.
  • One payment. The app has no subscription.

Which should you pick?

  • Pick Antigravity if you want to build around Gemini, need macOS or Linux, or want a free start from Google.
  • Pick Maxtkn if you want to keep your files and keys local, choose your own model, or you are on Windows and like a one-time price.
  • Try both. They do not conflict, and a project is just a folder.
Can I use Gemini in Maxtkn?

Yes. Gemini has a preset in Settings, and you add your own key. You can also start Gemini CLI in a terminal session. See Connect a model.

Does Maxtkn work offline?

The app runs on your computer, but models need a connection unless you point Maxtkn at a local model server such as Ollama or LM Studio, which works offline.

Which is easier for someone who does not code?

Both aim at that. Maxtkn writes its plans, checks and walkthrough in plain words and shows a live preview beside the chat. The best test is to try each on a small task of your own.
