The short version
- Cursor is a code editor that grew agents. It is made for developers who read and edit code every day, and it is strongest when you work inside the editor.
- Maxtkn starts from the other end: you describe a goal, a team of agents does the work, and you review results, checks and a preview. The code is one click away but you never have to read it.
- They can sit side by side. Maxtkn can start the Cursor command-line agent in one of its terminal sessions, each in its own copy of your project.

Where Cursor is stronger
- A full code editor. Cursor is built on the VS Code foundation, so editor extensions, keyboard habits and a deep editing experience carry over. Maxtkn has a code editor, but it is not where it tries to win.
- Cloud agents. Cursor can run agents on its own machines while your computer is off, and start work from places like the web, a phone or chat tools. Maxtkn runs only on your computer and has no cloud agents or phone app.
- Every major desktop system today. Cursor runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Maxtkn is built and tested on Windows only, and is a beta.
- Maturity. Cursor is a long-established product with a very large user base. Maxtkn is early-access software and its installer is not code-signed yet.
Where Maxtkn is different
- It assumes you do not read code. Plans, checks, a walkthrough and a live preview sit beside the chat, written in plain words, so you can judge the result without judging a diff.
- The team is the product. You pick Solo, Product team or Full squad, and specialists run in parallel. Bigger work starts with a design you approve first.
- Checks come before the claim. After a run, Maxtkn runs your tests, can open the app in a real browser and lists what the checks found. A check that could not run is reported as not run, never as a pass.
- You choose how much freedom agents get. Paths that leave the project folder are rejected, and secrets and git internals ask even in Full access.
- One payment. There is no subscription for the app. You pay your model provider for usage, and local models have no usage cost.
Which should you pick?
- Pick Cursor if you write code all day, want the editor ecosystem, need macOS or Linux, or want agents that run in the cloud.
- Pick Maxtkn if you want to hand over a goal and review outcomes instead of code, you are on Windows, and you like a one-time price and your own model keys.
- Use both if you are a developer who wants Cursor for editing and Maxtkn to run several sessions, each on its own branch, while you supervise.
Can Maxtkn replace Cursor?
For people who do not want to read code, it can be the main tool. For developers who live in an editor, it is better as a companion. Maxtkn has a code editor and a terminal, but it does not try to match Cursor’s editing experience.
Does Maxtkn work with Cursor?
Yes. The Terminals view can start the Cursor command-line agent in several sessions, each in its own copy of your project. Cursor must be installed and signed in on your computer; Maxtkn signs in to nothing. It is one of the less-tested tools, and the app says so when you choose it.
Which is cheaper?
It depends on how you use them. Maxtkn is a one-time payment and you pay your model provider for usage. Cursor is a subscription. Compare Cursor’s pricing with ours for your own use.
